Restoring a GBWhatsApp backup depends on how you created the backup and whether you’re moving to GBWhatsApp again or switching to official WhatsApp. Here’s how to do it:
Restoring GBWhatsApp Backup to GBWhatsApp
If you’re reinstalling GBWhatsApp and want to restore a backup:
- Find the Backup File
- Open your file manager.
- Navigate to: Internal Storage / GBWhatsApp / Databases
- Look for a file like:
- msgstore.db.crypt12 (latest backup)
- msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 (older backups)
- Reinstall GBWhatsApp
- Download the same or a newer version of GBWhatsApp.
- Install it but don’t open it yet.
- Move Backup File
- If you had to reset your phone, move the backup file back to: Internal Storage / GBWhatsApp / Databases.
- Restore Backup
- Open GBWhatsApp and verify your phone number.
- It should detect the backup and ask if you want to restore it.
- Tap Restore and wait for the process to finish.
Restoring GBWhatsApp Backup to Official WhatsApp
If you’re switching from GBWhatsApp to Official WhatsApp, follow these steps:
- Find and Rename the Backup File
- Go to: Internal Storage / GBWhatsApp / Databases
- Rename msgstore.db.crypt12 → msgstore.db.crypt14 (latest WhatsApp format).
- Move Backup to WhatsApp Folder
- Copy the renamed backup to: Internal Storage / WhatsApp / Databases
- Uninstall GBWhatsApp & Install Official WhatsApp
- Delete GBWhatsApp to avoid conflicts.
- Install the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store.
- Restore Chat Backup
- Open WhatsApp and verify your phone number.
- It should detect the backup and ask to restore it.
- Tap Restore and wait for the process to finish.
If Backup Isn’t Detected
- Make sure Google Drive backup is OFF (GBWhatsApp doesn’t support it).
- Ensure the backup is in the correct Databases folder.
- Use the same phone number linked to the backup.
